12.10.09NEWSKY Project Final Workshop and Demonstration, October 6, 2009
The results of the NEWSKY project have been presented to a large audience October 6, 2009 at the DLR premises in Munich/Oberpfeffenhofen. Presentations, demonstrations, posters, a panel discussion and discussions during the breaks have given the participants the opportunity to get an insight about the project outcomes and the nexts steps towards the implementation of an integrated IP network for air-ground communications. The NEWSKY project will have a stand at ATC Global 2009 with live demonstrations of the NEWSKY laboratory and simulation test-bed showing functionalities and the performance of a future, mobile and IPv6-based aeronautical communication network integrating satellite, airport and en-route communication data links. 21.11.08NEWSKY at AEEC NIS meeting in Lisbon
NEWSKY provides inputs to the AEEC project MAGIC (Manager of Air-Ground Interface Communications). Further collaboration has been agreed and the next MAGIC meeting will be held at DLR in Munich, February 2009.

The NEWSKY concept and results have been presented to SESAR JU during the project mid-term review. Further cooperation between NEWSKY and the SESAR JU has been agreed.

The NEWSKY consortium has actively participated at the IETF Meeting #72 in Dublin, giving a presentation of the draft "ATN Topology Considerations for Aeronautical NEMO RO" (draft-bauer-mext-aero-topology-00).

A NEWSKY meeting was held at Eurocontrol in Brussels with participatns from Eurocontrol, the European Commission and the NEWSKY Consortium presenting and discussing the latest results.

Contributions to the IETF draft NEMO RO (Network Mobility Route Optimisation) Requirements for Aviation. Strong involvement in the definition of IETF RFCs is key to ensure applicability to aviation.

NEWSKY contributions to ACP WG-I are available from the ICAO website, investigating transport layer issues (Meeting #2), Quality of Service (QoS) solutions (Meeting #4) and mobility options (Meeting #5).

21.10.07Best Session Paper Award
The NEWSKY paper "NEWSKY – Building a Simulation Environement for an Integrated Aeronautical Network Architecture" authored by C.H. Rokitansky, M. Ehammer and T. Gräupl received the best session paper award at the DASC 2007 conference (NEWSKY Papers).

NEWSKY representatives have participated and contributed to ACP WG-I meeting #2 in Montreal. Further contributions are envisaged to develop a sustainable, IP-based aeronautical network.

A NEWSKY User Workshop was held during the ICAO ACP/1 meeting in Montreal. Panel members of all states represented in the ACP have participated and contributed to the discussions.

Representatives from Air France, DSNA, NATS, Sofreavia and Thales Avionics discussed with NEWSKY participants from Thales Alenia Space and DLR in a very interesting meeting the concepts and objectives of NEWSKY.

The NEWSKY kick-off meeting was held at the premises of DLR in the vicinity of Munich, Germany. The 26 meeting participants contributed to fruitful discussions to enable a good “take-off“ of the NEWSKY project.
